Purring widget

If you are interested in widgets, I have just added a great little widget to my page on this Ning as well as to my blog etc. Check it out - but don't bother if you are more interested in hippopotami than in cats ;>)

Widgets and gadgets

If you are feeling a bit disappointed with Yourminis you might like to play around with gadgets (see tag above) and widgets on your ning page. I have some on mine that I find useful or amusing or entertaining. Polyxena does too, They are easy to load here.

March is Out of Oz Month!

March 2008 is a special month for Learning 2.1. For the first time the guide is coming from outside the USA.! The guide for the month of March is the City of Boroondara Library Service in Melbourne, Australia. Specifically this month, the guides will be Boroondara staff Anne Holmes and Fiona Malcolm.

We are very pleased to be doing this and to be the guides for the PLCMC program! How exciting is this!

Learning 2.1 Photographs

I've just started up the photo section for Libcobning by uploading a few photos that I created as part of the Learning 2.1 tasks. The Conde Nast cover featuring the tourist attractions of Hawthorn Library was done as a task for Thing 28 and the Xmas cats on Picnik for Thing 36, while the captioned Hecuba was done for the LOLcat thing, #30. No hippopotami, Fiona, but there's no reason why you couldn't start a LOLhippopotamus trend.

It would be great if some of you could also post the out… Continue

Boroondara Learning 2.1 - How to get started

Welcome to the City of Boroondara Learning 2.1 ning!

If you want to get started on Learning 2.1 there are a couple of approaches you can take. On the right hand bar there are links to the US Learning 2.1 blog. Here you will find instructions to tasks #24 onwards. You can surge ahead doing those. You can also check out the comments that earlier participants have made.

There is also a link to the US Learning 2.1 ning network, Explore, discover, play. You can just read this but you can also join up and join in discussions about the various Things.

In the box below this one, we will also be posting a task a week here specifically for Boroondara staff. We'll be adding one a week. This is not a large time commitment and one that can easily be fitted in at work. As well as the actual task, we will also start a discussion in the forum for each task, so that you can add your comments, air your problems, explore possibilities with others.

Obviously, only the current week's task will be in the box below. So, if you are in arrears or just want to look at a past task, go to the Forum section (click on the Forum tab at the top of the page). When you get to the Forum section, just click on the title of the task number you are up to or want to see! Then it will open. The first item is the task and its instructions. You can also add comments here if you want to ask questions or just raise a point.

So join in the fun! Join the ning and register your participation in Learning 2.1 by sending a message to Fiona or Annabel. Just go to one of our pages and click the envelope under the photo and the message process will be activated. Please give us your name (a real one for this please) and your blog address. Ask one of us if you can't work out how to do that.

The journey is starting again! Enjoy!

Thing of the week: 18 August Thing 38

Thing 38: Comic Relief

This week we will have some fun with our work and play around at making comic strips.

I've discovered there are a lot of online comic strip makers and some you can even upload your own pictures to play with.

I'll list all of them at the end but will focus on ToonDoo from Jambav which is where I like to play.
Have a look at Shelf Check, a series of Library comics available on ToonDoo. Hint: position your mouse over it and move to control the image, no clicking needed:

The website runs in Flash so be sure you have the latest version to get the full options. If you are a bit out of date you can create using their images but to uplaod your own to your gallery you need the latest versions of your web browser and Flash player.

Other online comic makers are:
Make Beliefs - targeted to kids
Read Write Think - Kids again
Comeeko - loves MySpace
Strip Creator

So for this week's Discovery exercise.

1. Go to ToonDoo or one of the other strip makers listed above
2. Find a couple of library related comics you like.
3. email, create a del.icio.us bookmark, or embed it in your blog
4. Sign up and create your own comic on whatever you want
5. Don't forget to write about your experience in your blog.

Boroondara Learning 2.1 Blogs

These are the blogs of Boroondara staff who are working on Learning 2.1. Use these to read what others have discovered about the program. Sometimes it is useful to discover some tips before you do the Thing, like there is a problem with a site and it's not just your PC ;>).

If your blog is not here and you wish to participate in Learning 2.1, please register your blog details with Anne or Fiona.
